A rapid test that detects IgG and IgM antibodies to hantavirus in whole blood, serum or plasma. Result in 10 minutes.
Why test?
Hantaviruses are carried by rodents such as bank voles. People usually become infected by breathing in dust contaminated with rodent urine or droppings – when cleaning storerooms, woodsheds or garden sheds, or working in forestry or farming. In Europe the infection most often causes haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome: sudden high fever, severe headache, back and abdominal pain, nausea, blurred vision and later possible kidney problems. Symptoms usually appear 1–2 weeks (rarely up to 8 weeks) after exposure. If hantavirus is suspected, see a doctor and mention possible contact with rodents.

Wash your hands with soap and warm water or clean them with an alcohol wipe and let them dry. Massage the hand towards the tip of the middle or ring finger, puncture the skin with the sterile lancet and wipe away the first drops of blood. Gently massage the hand from wrist to fingers until a round drop forms. Add 10 µL of blood into 200 µL of buffer using the dropper. Let the pouch reach room temperature, remove the cassette and place it on a clean, flat surface. Add 2 drops of sample (about 20 µL) to the sample well (S), then 2 drops of buffer (about 80 µL) to the buffer well (B) and start the timer. Read the result after 10 minutes. Do not read after 20 minutes.
Results: NEGATIVE: a single line in the control area (C). IgG POSITIVE: lines at C and IgG. IgM POSITIVE: lines at C and IgM. IgG and IgM POSITIVE: lines at C, IgG and IgM. INVALID: no control line — repeat with a new test.
Questions about this test
Read the instruction leaflet in the pack before you start. Collect your sample as described, apply it to the test, and read the result within the time stated in the leaflet. Do not read the result after that time.
The accuracy shown on this page comes from the manufacturer's validation data. No self-test is 100% accurate, so a result is an indication, not a diagnosis.
The test is invalid. Do not interpret the result. Repeat the test with a new one and follow the leaflet carefully.
Speak to a doctor or pharmacist. A self-test does not replace a medical consultation, and a negative result does not always rule out a condition, especially if you have symptoms.
Store it as described in the leaflet and keep it sealed until use. Do not use a test after the expiry date printed on the pack.
