Iron Deficiency (Ferritin) Rapid Test (blood)

€6,99
Iron Vitamins

A finger-prick rapid test that checks your iron stores by measuring ferritin in the blood. Ferritin is the protein that stores iron and releases it when the body needs it. Result in 5 minutes.

Why test?

Iron deficiency is one of the most common nutritional deficiencies and can lead to anaemia over time. Typical signs are tiredness, weakness, shortness of breath on exertion, pale skin, dizziness, hair loss and brittle nails. Higher-risk groups include women with heavy periods, pregnant women, children and teenagers during growth spurts, vegetarians, blood donors and people with digestive conditions. If the result is low or symptoms continue, see a doctor to find the cause.

Common questions

What are the symptoms of iron deficiency?
Tiredness, weakness, dizziness, pale skin, cold hands and feet, hair loss or brittle nails. These can have other causes too, so it is worth checking.

What is ferritin?
The protein the body uses to store iron. Its blood level reflects your iron stores, so low ferritin often shows deficiency even before anaemia develops.

Can low ferritin cause hair loss?
Yes, low iron stores are a common cause of hair loss, especially in women. If the test shows a deficiency, see a doctor.

Rapid tests are for preliminary screening and do not replace a doctor’s consultation.

How to do the test1. Wash your hands with soap and warm water.2. Open the foil pouch and take out the cassette.3. Twist off and discard the lancet cap.4. Clean the tip of your middle or ring finger with the alcohol swab.5. Press the lancet against the side of the fingertip. The needle retracts automatically.6. Massage again if needed and avoid air bubbles.8. Squeeze the bulb to add the blood to the sample well.9. When it has soaked in, add 1 drop of buffer to the sample well and start a timer.10. Read the result after 5 minutes. Do not read after 10 minutes.Reading the resultNormal: two lines (C and T). Ferritin level is normal.Low: only the C line. Ferritin is too low – possible iron deficiency. See a doctor.Invalid: no C line. Usually too little sample or a missed step. Repeat with a new test.

About this test

Questions about this test

Read the instruction leaflet in the pack before you start. Collect your sample as described, apply it to the test, and read the result within the time stated in the leaflet. Do not read the result after that time.

The accuracy shown on this page comes from the manufacturer's validation data. No self-test is 100% accurate, so a result is an indication, not a diagnosis.

The test is invalid. Do not interpret the result. Repeat the test with a new one and follow the leaflet carefully.

Speak to a doctor or pharmacist. A self-test does not replace a medical consultation, and a negative result does not always rule out a condition, especially if you have symptoms.

Store it as described in the leaflet and keep it sealed until use. Do not use a test after the expiry date printed on the pack.
